Founded in 1905, The Cambridge Historical Society is a non profit educational institution, dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the social and architectural histor of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It also encourages research and involvement in these efforts by our members and the community at large.
The Society supports programs, which include lectures, walking tours through diverse Cambridge neighborhoods, an open house at the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, and a field trip to a New England site of historic interest. Our youngest members hunt for colored eggs each spring, and the entire family enjoys and autumn Charles River cruiose.
The Society's headquarters and collections are in the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House at 159 Brattle Street. It owns and cares for this architecturally and historically significat 300 year old "Tory Row" mansion, given to the Society in 1957, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
