The cambridge Historical Society

Founded in 1905, the Cambridge Historical Society is a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the social and architectural history of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It also encourages research and involvement in these efforts by its members and the community at large.

The Society supports a number of programs, including lectures and walking tours through diverse Cambridge neighborhoods. The Society's research library contains a number of valuable historical resources and is open to the public by appointment.

The Society's headquarters and collections are in the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House at 159 Brattle Street. It owns and cares for this architecturally and historically significant 300-year-old "Tory Row" mansion, given to the Society in 1957, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
